We believe that sharing is caring. At My Dog Loves Broccoli, our mission is to share tons of great and healthful information, videos, blogs and articles exploring the various facets of a healthy and wholesome life for dogs.

Our vision is simple and straightforward: Longer and healthier lives for the creatures that we hold so close to our hearts, the animals in which we share our love and our laughter, the beloved pets that we call our best friends.

At My Dog Loves Broccoli, loyalty is the most important value of all. In fact, the iconic name “Fido”, a name used by Abraham Lincoln himself to beckon his dedicated and trusted pooch, actually means fidelity, loyalty and trust. We are forever loyal to our furry friends and are dedicated to providing the most healthy environment possible.

Nutrition

Early in the 20th century, The American Nutritionist Victor Lindlahr first coined the phrase “you are what you eat!” He was, of course, referring to human beings and how our diet  affects our health, our bodies and our lifespan. Although Mr Lindlahr was alluding to humans and the relationship between our dietary choices and our health, the same rules apply to any creature including dogs.

There are a number of issues that can manifest themselves in your dog’s health as a result of poor nutrition, or just too much of a good thing. These problems include (but are not limited to) diabetes, cancer, liver issues, arthritis, as well as joint, heart and skin issues. All of these infirmities can, and will, compromise your dog’s quality of life and may shorten their lifespan as well. Serving our dogs fresh, healthy food  (in moderation, of course) is excellent for our dogs bodies and can help them to live longer, healthier lives.

As most people know, dogs are direct descendants of wolves. But unlike wolves, dogs are not designated as carnivores but rather omnivores. Over the years, dogs have adapted to eat a more diverse diet which allows them the benefits of the vitamins and minerals available in fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Combining the necessary protein in lean meats with these other food groups provides our dogs with a wide array of essential vitamins necessary for them to thrive.  Click on the video link at the top of the page for how-to-videos on cooking and preparing excellent and healthy meals for your dogs.

Exercise

How much exercise does your dog need everyday? The answer depends on the type of dog that you have as well as their age and individual needs. Obviously, puppies need more exercise than adult and senior dogs. And herding breeds like Border Collies and Labrador Retrievers need more of a workout than Bassets and Bulldogs.  Consulting your veterinarian or the American Kennel Club is always a good idea in these matters if you need guidance.

Lack of physical activity and obesity in our canine companions has been positively correlated with an increase in certain types of cancers. This makes regular exercise even more critical to your dog’s overall health and longevity.

Environment

Equally, if not more important, is the environment in which our dogs live. This includes the chemicals we use to clean our houses, the type of shampoo we use to bathe them, the fertilizers on our lawns and the list goes on. Having an awareness of the potential hazards the chemicals around us pose to our dogs is extremely important to their health and relative lifespan.

Here on My Dog Loves Broccoli, we will be looking at many of the potential hazards to dogs and ways to mitigate those dangers by buying safer, less toxic pet products, eliminating or minimizing certain cleaning chemicals and becoming more aware of some of the easy-to-forget items that may harm or even kill or four legged friends. The video link at the top of the page will bring you to many helpful and informative videos that may help guide you to creating a safer environment for yourself and your dog.
